What is a “Trouble Spotter”?

A Trouble Spotter is a licensed instructor of Defense By Design, presenting educational programs to private sector audiences, helping everyday people learn to identify, and therefore hopefully avoid, becoming victims of violent crime. Simply put, a Trouble Spotter is someone who will help you learn how to better “spot trouble ‘before’ trouble spots you”!

What Programs do Trouble Spotters offer?

Our seminars page lists these in more detail, but there are two basic types of seminars offered: (1) women’s-only seminar events, and (2) co-ed or general audience seminar events.

The first will be more in-depth training, typically in private group settings and currently these will be the women’s safety events.

The second will be a bit more general information, applicable in larger public group settings for civic organizations, home owners associations, apartment communities, crime watch groups, schools, and the like.

Who are Trouble Spotters?

Trouble Spotters may come from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds to bring these seminars and presentations to your community. Some will be women who simply have a desire to help protect other women in their adult lives as well as younger women as they graduate and matriculate to college. Others will be men and women alike that already have their own related (or unrelated) business who simply wish to offer such presentations as a positive and proactive contribution and resource to their community.

Who is Defense By Design?

Since 2005, Defense By Design has been assisting companies, corporations, non-profits and institutions, as well as the private sector mitigate risks as it relates to violent crime. Its founder, Jeff McKissack, has been operating in the fields of profiling and threat assessment since 1987, so there is a long history of experience and expertise attached to this training. The goal is to replicate the message of Defense By Design through a network of licensed instructors to provide similar training to more people and communities across the U.S. regardless of geographical location. Webinars and teleseminars are great, but nothing can replace the dynamic of a live presentation with human interaction, especially when teaching people one of the most valuable skill sets of all – SURVIVAL.
